Learning, where we gain deep knowledge, rather than just facts or information, happens when we:
- Have experiences
- Review those experiences
- Relate experiences to theories, models and concepts at which point we often get the 'light bulb' moment of understanding or learning.
- Plan how we're going to consciously use the learning in similar situations in future.
This process is called the Kolb's Learning Cycle – Do, Reflect, Conceptualize, Plan.
The Learning Cycle is similar to the principles of TQM, Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence and the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen used in the motor manufacturing industry.
