Performance Measurement Platform (PMP)

Performance Measurement Platform (PMP) is a service for multidomain network monitoring and management in the GÉANT project. It facilitates network performance measurements through multiple domains, between NRENs and the GÉANT network. PMP includes many perfSONAR integrated features that helps monitor your network performance. This service also speeds up onboarding perfSONAR users with instances pre-configured by the PMP operational team.

It consists of:

  • perfSONAR installation on virtual machines or low-cost hardware nodes deployed in GÉANT collaborating organisations
  • Central components including a central Measurement Archive (MA) and a visualization Dashboard
  • Automations and monitoring supporting the maintenance of the service by the PMP operational team

The PMP nodes are performing regular measurements towards a few Measurement Points (MPs) located in the core of the GÉANT network, and operated by the GÉANT network operations centre. The central components that manage the platform elements, gather, store and represent the performance data, are operated and maintained by the PMP operational team in the GÉANT project. The PMP nodes users can shape the predefined setup and configure additional measurements to their needs and get more familiar with the platform.

The PMP operational team maintains an instance of the central archive to store measurement results and provides a Grafana dashboard for visualising performance testing between PMP service instances in NRENs and GÉANT PoPs.

In order to facilitate service management the PMP operational team also maintains a centrally hosted set of automations and monitoring dashboards.
