Logistics

Mon 23rd September 14:00 - 15:30 CEST
Registration: https://events.geant.org/event/1714/

Intended audience

  • GA + C-level

Goal

  • positioning of "Distributed Identities" in the context of the T&I activities of GÉANT (organisation, project and community alike)
    • no technical deep-dive
    • focus on things we should be doing next (or continue to do) as a community, but also point out the risk associated by not acting
    • convey the message that this is a mid-2024 snapshot in a fast-moving field

Agenda

  • intro T7
  • our "expert snapshot risk assessment" including proposed actions
  • good examples of next steps

Storyline

  • context of T7, strategic positioning
  • quick run through the history of our community's T&I activities with a focus on
    • the foundational use case
    • point out the various "transitions" we had to make and the "gamechanger" associated with each step
    • point out the stability of the foundational use case of transporting organisational, trusted user-related data to services in need of this information
  • enter "distributed identities"
    • a brief look into into "what" and "why"
    • what is the "gamechanger" in this "transition" - industry-wide, but also specifically for our community
  • our "expert snapshot assessment" of the current situation
    • (technical) readiness of "distributed identities", also in comparison to the readiness of our (inter-)federation and identity services
    • "transition" risks: our mid-2024 snapshot risk map
    • risks associated with non-acting ("non-transitioning"): including the "political agenda" (pushing mobility, alliances and eID)
    • proposed actions:
      • protect our investment: recognise and protect our stable, globally scaled T&I services from rushing into low-readiness services
      • monitoring: monitoring the "distributed identity" activities and assess the relevance for our community
      • engagement: engage in relevant industry standardisation processes and trialling activities (e.g. DC4EU)
      • communicate:
  • feature good examples of current engagements:
    • DC4EU, Stefan (use case for education)
    • OID federation, Davide
  • Potential for our community
    • GEANT, MyAcademicID, Christos
    • Research use cases, Niels
  • Discussion:
  • short wrap-up and outlook:
    • report to sum up nicely all above to come
    • input for TCO-meetings and more
    • DI in GN5-2
